A Lesson in Observation

No one can be controlled.

You can stick a gun in someone’s ribs and demand their money but there’s always that chance they’ll punch you in the throat. People forget that every single day every single person is where they are because of choices. Whether the consequences were obvious or not, they exist.

Simply believing the moon was made out of cheese for centuries did not make it so. Using the same logic, believing a person is bad, good, midunderstood, or any of a thousand other judgements does not make that person so.

Here’s a simple experiment. The next time you’re out, ask a friend or a family member what they think of anyone. Not somebody famous, but someone you see right in front of you. Pick a grocery clerk at the supermarket. A random stranger.

It doesn’t matter who you pick. You’re not learning about them. When they answer focus on the details they give you. Do they concentrate on the way they dress? Is their attention directed at the way they talk? Their body language? Facial expressions?

There is no correct answer. Everyone is different.

No one has all the answers.  Since this example is a practical application I can’t tell you what they’re going to direct your attention to. What does your friend or family member’s answer tell you about how they look at people?
